We are honored and delighted to be the first yarn shop in the Northeast to host designer Melanie Berg (known online as Mairlynd), from Bonn, Germany. To know Yarn Culture is to know we love Melanie! We have been following her work on Ravelry since early 2013 and have featured her designs from the inception of our shop. Melanie is best known for her shawl patterns which combine colors, shapes and textures into freewheeling designs that are uniquely her own. She has been published by yarn companies and knitting magazines large and small, and has also self-published her own patterns and e-books.
Patty Lyons is a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert who is known for teaching the 'why, not just the 'how', in her pursuit of training the 'mindful knitter'. She specializes in sweater design and sharing her love of the much-maligned subjects of gauge and blocking. Patty teaches nationally at guilds & knitting shows around the country, and her popular classes can also be found online and on DVDs with Interweave, Annie's and Craftsy. Her "Improve Your Knitting" class was named Craftsy's most popular class of 2013! Patty lives in Brooklyn with her husband, a room full of yarn, and her rooftop garden.
Laura Nelkin lives in upstate New York, where the sunny season is short, leaving plenty of time to be indoors knitting. Though she has a degree in apparel design from Cornell University, she took to knitting years ago and hasn't looked back. Laura is currently enamored with lace, incorporating beads, and knitted jewelry, themes which inform many of her designs. She teaches these techniques and more at workshops around the country. Laura has a line of knitting kits, self-publishes patterns, and runs mystery Knit-A-Longs multiple times a year. Her first book, Knockout Knits, was released in September 2014.
