Getting Ready for the Starting Point MKAL

May 9th

We're getting ready and excited for Joji Locatelli's MKAL starting this Friday, May 12, 2017 and hope you are too!

I've (Patti) never done a MKAL before so I'm eager to give this one a try. I love Joji's aesthetic and she's taken the scariest part of the mystery away by providing insight into the basic stole structure (rectangle) and the techniques we can expect to use (a bit of simple lace; a lot of garter stitch). I'm imagining a project that will move quickly and a finished stole I can reach for while sitting on the deck or at the lake on cool summer evenings.

If you want to join in, make sure you buy the pattern on Ravelry ASAP. It's the only way you can get it. Joji has given a lot of info to get ready including hints on selecting colors and thoughts on the order in which you might want to knit them.  Once you buy the pattern, the clues will be automatically delivered to your Ravelry Library as a pattern update. That will happen 5 times and you will need to download each clue. The first Clue will be revealed on May 12. (this Friday!)

One of our shop associates, Brenda, will be joining in too so you'll find one or both of us working  on it during most of the Friday and Saturday afternoon Sit 'n Knits. I'll actually be away for the kick-off this weekend. I guess Joji forgot my daughter was graduating on Saturday (LOL!). I still plan to post my progress on instagram and Facebook and share anything that seems relevant. Use hashtags #jojimysterywrap and #startingpointmkal to connect with other participants.

If you want help putting together a combination, stop in or give a call and we'll see what we can put together for you!

Happy Knitting!

My Starting Point Choices and a Couple of Tips/Notes

I've decided to go with a color palette that includes purple, grey and aqua/ turquoise. I selected colors in fingering yarns I love together regardless of the dyer.

TIP:  Fingering weight yarn comes in various yardages from 390 yds - 463yds. Joji gives the yardage she used for each color. Double check your yarn for each color and make sure you are OK. I'm taking a chance on my Color 1. She used 390 yds and my skein is 400 yds. I'm going to mind my gauge and hope the knitting goddess rewards me.

The palette is beautiful and I'm eager to start. Here's what I'm using:

Color 1: Indigodragonfly: Chameleon Sock; Color: Ooo...Shiny.  (light grey)

Color 2: Into the Whirled: Semi Solid Pakokku Sock; Color:  Succubus (purple)

Color 3: Into the Whirled: Resist Dyed Pakokku Sock; Color:  The Cat's Pyjamas (variegated)

Color 4: The Uncommon Thread: Uncommon Everyday; Color: Aged Merlot (near-black purple)

Color 5: The Periwinkle Sheep: WaterColors; Color: Set in Stone (turquoise)

We've still got a few Into the Whirled Kits available. We limited our selection to yarns with 463 yards so nobody is playing yarn chicken on our account! If you want help putting together a combination, stop in or give us a call and we'll see what we can put together for you!
