About the Workshops

3 Skeins, 3 Colours

Class Fee:  $75
Materials: $25

In this class, you will learn to dye 3 skeins of yarn in colours of your choice. Work with one or more of a range of colours to create your unique accents for your next colour work sweater, a striped shawl or more! If time allows, more than one pot may be dyed by each student (extra fee for yarn applies)

Start searching for patterns you’d like to knit with your yarn. Collect images and examples of colour combinations you love. Look in magazines and books. Take photos of places you love. Browse the paint chip aisle at your local hardware store. Come to class with a sense of colour combinations that make you happy and excited about knitting them.

Self-striping Yarn

Class Fee: $75
Materials: $10

In this class you will go through all steps for creating self-striping or patterning yarn for socks, arm warmers or fingerless mitts. You will prepare your skein for dyeing, learn techniques for creating striped yarn and learn how to set the dyes. When finished, you’ll have a skein of yarn that will knit up in the unique striped pattern you have created!

Come to class with a sense of 2, 3 or 4 colour combinations that make you happy
and excited about knitting them.

Drop-in Dyeing

Class Fee:  $30
(including dyeing materials plus 1 sk Sock Yarn)

Have you ever wanted to try dyeing a skein of yarn, but aren’t ready for a big commitment?  This class is for you.  In one hour you’ll get just a taste of what happens when you combine dye and yarn. Experiment and see what happens with just a few simple guidelines.

NOTE: There is no formal instruction or information on mixing dyes in this class. Sign up for 3 Skeins, 3 Colors to learn the fundamentals of the full dyeing process.

Dyeing Gradients

Class Fee:  $75
Materials: $5 plus yarn, depending on technique

Gradients are a wonderful way to explore colour. Three different gradient dyeing techniques will be demonstrated in this class, with pros and cons of both dyeing and knitting with yarns dyed in each technique. We’ll also discuss variations on each technique. Choose 1, 2 or 3 techniques to try in class.

Homework: none!

How to Use Variegated Yarns

Free Class for workshop attendees

The skein glows with bold color contrasts, your favorite colors, your favorite weight of yarn; but how do you use it? How do you avoid weird stripes or unsightly pools of color? Some projects and textures are better than others for bringing out the best in beautiful variegated yarns. This class will cover different types of variegation, how to identify color repeats, techniques for using variegated, tonal, and gradient yarns, and examples of patterns that work for all of these types of yarns.
